The Simple Spray I Use to Freshen Rugs and Upholstery

With three pugs and four cats, it’s amazing how quickly soft surfaces can start holding onto odors.
Between deeper cleaning sessions, I use a simple spray made with distilled water and white vinegar. I use a homemade lightly mist rugs, upholstery, and other fabric surfaces, then let them dry naturally.
My Simple Fabric-Freshening Spray

Add everything to a spray bottle and shake gently. Lightly mist the surface without soaking it, then allow it to dry completely.
Always test a hidden area first. Lightly mist—don’t soak—the fabric, and keep pets off the surface until it is completely dry. Never spray the mixture directly on your pets.
Why It Works
White vinegar contains acetic acid, which can help break down some of the residue that holds onto everyday odors. As the vinegar-and-water mixture dries, the sharp vinegar smell fades, leaving the fabric smelling fresher rather than heavily perfumed making it the perfect simple rug and upholstery spray.
Using distilled water also helps prevent mineral spots or residue that tap water can sometimes leave behind.
