  • The Simple Spray I Use to Freshen Rugs and Upholstery

With three pugs and four cats, it’s amazing how quickly soft surfaces can start holding onto odors. Between deeper cleaning sessions, I use a simple spray made with distilled water and white vinegar. I use a homemade lightly mist rugs, upholstery, and other fabric surfaces, then let them dry naturally. My Simple Fabric-Freshening Spray 1 part distilled white vinegar 1 part distilled water Add everything to a spray bottle and shake gently. Lightly mist the surface without soaking it, then allow it to dry completely. Always test a hidden area first. Lightly mist—don’t soak—the fabric, and keep pets off the surface until it is completely dry. Never spray the mixture directly on your pets. Why It Works White vinegar contains acetic acid, which can help break down some of the residue that holds onto everyday odors. As the vinegar-and-water mixture dries, the sharp vinegar smell fades, leaving the fabric smelling fresher rather than heavily perfumed making it the perfect simple rug and upholstery spray. Using distilled water also helps prevent mineral spots or residue that tap water can sometimes leave behind. ❤️ Before You Go... If you enjoyed this simple tip, I’d love to stay in touch. • Pet-Friendly Room Decor Ideas for a Stylish Home with Dogs and Cats

Living with pets — especially a lively crew like mine with three pugs and four cats — means my home has to do double duty. It needs to look good, feel cozy, and survive fur, paws, zoomies, food bowls, toy piles, and whatever mystery mess somebody decided to create while I was minding my business. I’m Chan (only my friends get to call me that...that means you🩷) — pug mom, cat wrangler, and the person who tests products in my actual home before I recommend them. Today, I’m sharing pet-friendly room decor ideas that help balance style, comfort, and real-life practicality. These are the kinds of home finds I look for: pieces that are easy to clean, useful, durable, and still pretty enough that your house doesn’t look like the pets fully took over — even though, let’s be honest, they absolutely did. ✨Shopping note: Some links may be affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you shop through them, at no extra cost to you. Underlined product names are live links — tap to shop or browse the finds. Creating a Pet-Friendly Space with Room Decor for Pet Owners When it comes to decorating a home with pets, the challenge is to find pieces that can withstand wear and tear but still look great. Here are some tips and product ideas that have worked wonders in my home: Durable Fabrics: Choose upholstery made from tightly woven fabrics like microfiber or leather alternatives. These materials resist pet hair and are easy to clean. Washable Rugs: Rugs are a must for cozy spaces, but they can trap fur and odors. Opt for machine-washable rugs or those made from synthetic fibers that repel stains. Pet-Friendly Plants: Some plants are toxic to pets, so I stick to safe options like spider plants or Boston ferns. They add greenery without risking your pet’s health. Hidden Storage: Clutter can be a problem with pet toys and supplies. Stylish baskets or ottomans with storage keep things tidy and accessible. These ideas help maintain a clean, stylish home without sacrificing comfort for your furry friends. A comfy, pet-friendly family room decked out with earthy colors, soft seating, and lively plants, blending comfort and style perfectly. Practical and Stylish Furniture Choices for Pet Owners Furniture is the centerpiece of any room, and for pet owners, it needs to be both functional and resilient. Here’s what I recommend based on my experience: Sectional Sofas with Removable Covers These are lifesavers. When your pugs decide to snuggle or your cats shed fur, you can easily remove and wash the covers. Look for fabrics that are stain-resistant and durable. Pet Beds That Blend In Instead of bulky, obvious pet beds, choose stylish options that complement your decor. Elevated beds with wooden frames or cushioned mats that match your room’s color palette work well. Scratch-Resistant Surfaces For coffee tables and side tables, materials like tempered glass or metal are less likely to show scratches from curious claws. A cozy room showcases a stylish, low-pile abstract rug that conceals wear and is washable. Multi-Functional Pieces Ottomans with storage or benches that double as pet beds save space and keep our room organized. By selecting furniture with these features, you create a home that welcomes pets without compromising on style. Organizing Pet Essentials Without Sacrificing Style Pet storage can still be cute. I like pieces that hide the chaos without ruining the room's style. Keeping pet supplies organized is a constant challenge. Here are some ideas to keep your home looking neat: Cozy Storage Solutions: Consider using charming woven baskets or decorative bins to keep your toys, leashes, and grooming tools neatly stored away. Adding labels can make it a breeze to find what you need when you need it! Wall Hooks and Racks: Install hooks near the door for leashes and collars. This keeps them off the floor and ready for walks. Designated Feeding Stations: Use a tray or mat under food and water bowls to catch spills. Choose bowls that match your style. Hidden Litter Boxes: For cat owners, a litter box enclosure that looks like furniture can keep odors and mess out of sight. These solutions help maintain a clutter-free environment while keeping pet essentials handy. Guest room converted into pet room features a stylish cabinet that discreetly conceals a kitty litter box, seamlessly blending form and function. How to Choose Safe and Stylish Decor Accessories Decor accessories add personality to your space but can sometimes be hazardous to pets. Here’s how to pick safe and chic items: Avoid Small, Swallowable Items: Keep knick-knacks out of reach to prevent choking hazards. Choose Non-Toxic Materials: Opt for decor made from natural, non-toxic materials like wood, cotton, or ceramic. Secure Fragile Items: Place breakables on high shelves or in cabinets. Use Pet-Friendly Candles and Scents: Some essential oils and candles can be harmful to pets. Stick to pet-safe options or use diffusers with caution. By being mindful of these factors, you can decorate your home beautifully without risking your pets’ safety. Why Should You Trust Michelle's Room Finds Michelle’s Room Finds is where I collect the home, pet, beauty, and lifestyle products that make everyday life a little easier. I do not share random products just because they look cute online. I look for pieces that make sense in a real home — especially one with pets, people, clutter, laundry, fur, and regular life happening all at the same time. If a product can survive my three pugs, four cats, and my need for things to be both functional and pretty, then it earns a spot on my list. My goal is simple: to help you create a home that feels cozy, stylish, practical, and pet-friendly without spending hours searching for everything yourself. • How I Keep My Home Clean, Fresh, and Healthy with 3 Pugs and 4 Cats

When people visit my house, they usually have the same reaction. "Wait...you have seven pets?" Yep! Three spoiled pugs, four opinionated cats, and somehow my house still doesn't smell like a kennel. Now, don't get me wrong. If you live with pets, you know there are going to be muddy paw prints, tumbleweeds of pet hair, toys that magically migrate from room to room, and the occasional surprise waiting for you on a puppy pad. That's just life with animals, and honestly, I wouldn't trade it for anything. Over the years, I've learned something important. I don't have to choose between having pets and having a home that feels clean, fresh, and welcoming. The secret isn't spending all day cleaning. It's creating routines that work with my pets instead of constantly fighting against them. Here's what works in my home. A clean living room with pets and a robot vacuum working My Morning Reset Before I start work each morning, I spend a few minutes doing what I call my RESET. This isn't a deep cleaning session. I'm simply putting things back where they belong so I can start my day feeling calm instead of overwhelmed. Blankets get folded. Dog toys go back into their basket...at least until Apollo, Athena, and Artemis decide it's time to redecorate again. Counters get wiped down. Anything that doesn't belong gets put away. I check the puppy pads and grass pads to see if anyone had an accident overnight. Believe it or not, I actually like this system. The dogs know they don't have to hold it if they can't, and if I notice something unusual, it's an early clue that someone might not be feeling well. That little morning check has helped me catch problems before they became bigger issues. When I'm finished, my house feels reset, and so do I. That visual fresh start makes a huge difference in my mindset before I sit down to work. I Don't Clean Every Day—I Maintain Every Day People sometimes assume I'm constantly cleaning because I have seven pets. The truth is, I'm not. I believe in maintenance, not perfection. Instead of trying to deep clean my entire house every day, I spread things out throughout the week. That keeps everything manageable and prevents my house from ever feeling like it's getting away from me. It's a system that has taken years to develop, but now it feels effortless because everything has its place on the schedule. Keeping My Robot Litter Boxes Clean and Odor-Free Utility room converted to a cat feeding and litter box room With four cats, litter box maintenance isn't optional—it's just part of life. One of the best investments I've made has been switching to robot litter boxes. They keep everything cleaner throughout the day and make daily maintenance so much easier, but they're not completely maintenance-free. After trying several litters over the years (including some less expensive brands), I always come back to Boxie Probiotic Cat Litter. Yes, it costs a little more upfront, but for me it actually ends up being the better value. It clumps extremely well, doesn't track all over my floors, and does an incredible job trapping odors. When I switched to a cheaper litter, I found myself using more of it and running out before the month was over. With Boxie Pro, I can often make a bag last longer than 30 days, so in the long run, it actually saves me money. About every 30 days, I empty each litter drawer completely, wash and sanitize the waste drawer and the inside of each robot litter box, then start fresh with new litter. It keeps everything working properly and helps keep my home smelling fresh. One little trick I swear by is sprinkling a light layer of baking soda in the bottom of each waste drawer before adding the liner. It helps reduce sticking and gives me another layer of odor control. Speaking of saving money...here's one of my favorite little hacks. Instead of buying expensive replacement waste bags, I use the blue Kroger grocery bags from my grocery deliveries. They fit my robot litter box drawers perfectly, I always have plenty on hand, and they save me from spending extra money on specialty liners. And here's my real secret weapon... When it's time to deep clean my grass pads, robot litter box trays, racks, and other pet accessories, I use sodium percarbonate (an oxygen cleaner) mixed with warm water. I simply let everything soak, and most of the grime rinses right off with very little effort. I don't spend forever scrubbing anymore. It also does an amazing job removing lingering odors from the grass pads. I absolutely love this stuff! I buy both sodium percarbonate and baking soda in bulk because I use them throughout my home—not just for the litter boxes. Buying in bulk saves me money, and I know they'll always be on hand when it's time for my monthly deep cleaning. Living with four cats means having a good litter box system is non-negotiable. Between my robot litter boxes, Boxie Pro litter, a few inexpensive cleaning hacks, and a regular maintenance routine, guests are usually surprised when they learn I share my home with seven pets. My Robot Vacuums Do a Lot of the Heavy Lifting One of the biggest game changers in my home has been letting technology help me. Downstairs, my Eufy robot vacuum runs every evening while I'm winding down for the day. It vacuums and mops at the same time, picking up pet hair, dust, litter, and whatever else my crew has tracked through the house. I've also used a Samsung vacuum and mop combo that runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays to help maintain the floors. Honestly? I actually prefer my Eufy. (My vacuum: Eufy X10 Pro Omni Robot Vacuum and Mop Combo) It's easier to use, the AI navigation is impressive, and it costs a fraction of what I paid for the Samsung. It has become one of those products I genuinely wonder how I lived without. Do I still vacuum myself? Absolutely, I use a stick vacuum and would fight you for it! The robots keep everything maintained, while I handle the deeper cleaning. These habits protect my pets’ health while keeping the home spotless. Deep Cleaning the Floors With three pugs, deep cleaning is simply part of life. For larger cleaning jobs, I recently added a stick vacuum to my routine. I love having powerful suction for rugs, furniture, and those places where pet hair somehow manages to collect no matter how often you clean. When it's time to mop, I use my Shark steam mop for a deeper clean, and in between those cleanings I grab my Swiffer WetJet to freshen up the floors quickly. For hardwood floors, furniture, and even dusting, I've been using Murphy Oil Soap for years. It's one of those products that quietly does its job without a lot of fuss, and I always seem to come back to it. Every so often I also mix baking soda into my grout cleaning routine to brighten the kitchen floors. It takes a little elbow grease, but the results are worth it. Air Quality Was My Biggest Game Changer If I had to recommend one thing that completely changed my home, it wouldn't actually be a vacuum. It would be my air purification system. With pet hair, dander, pollen from the trees around my house, and construction happening nearby from time to time, I realized I needed to think beyond what I could actually see. I use LightAir IonFlow Evolution air purifiers throughout my home, and I honestly love them. I clean them every other week, and they have made a tremendous difference in how fresh my home feels. There have been mornings when I've walked downstairs fully expecting to smell that one of the dogs had an accident overnight...and I couldn't smell a thing. The only downside I've noticed is that the ion technology can leave a little dust on nearby surfaces, so placement matters. To improve my home's air even more, I installed a Reme Halo in-duct air purification system in my HVAC system. The bulb lasts about two years before it needs replacing, making it an easy part of my long-term home maintenance routine. Every month, I also replace my HVAC air filter. It's a small task that makes a big difference. The Little Things Add Up Some of my favorite cleaning products aren't expensive at all. I love Dawn Powerwash for cleaning my countertops. Afterward, I'll wipe them down with my own peppermint-and-water mixture. It leaves everything smelling fresh, and I've found it also helps discourage pests and reminds my cats that the kitchen counters aren't their personal runway. For upholstery and pet bedding, I make my own fabric refresher. I also keep Pacagen dust spray on hand to help manage dust, especially since I have pets, seasonal pollen, and construction dust all competing for space in my home. Every couple of weeks I clean my ceiling fan blades using a simple vinegar-and-water solution along with Pacagen. It keeps dust from building up before it becomes noticeable. Washable Is Always Better Picture of a textured rug with a stain on it One thing I've learned after years of living with pets is this: Don't buy anything you're afraid your animals might damage. Most of the rugs in my house have been affordable on purpose. I'd rather spend around $150 on a rug that I can enjoy than spend thousands worrying every time someone tracks mud inside. The funny thing is, because I stay on top of cleaning, the rug in my living room is now over three years old, and my dining room rug is well over a year old. Weekly, I wash all of our bedding. Every month, I wash blankets, dog beds, rugs, and shampoo the carpets. Everything I can buy washable, I do. That decision alone has probably saved me thousands of dollars over the years. My Winter Must-Have During the winter months, I also bring out my Levoit humidifiers. They're easy to clean, add moisture back into the air, and I love that they have a tray where I can add essential oils or vapor rub products when needed. It's one of those little comforts that makes my home feel cozy during the colder months. My Secret Weapon Is My Phone If you looked at my phone, you'd probably laugh. It's full of reminders. Replace the air filter. Wash the dog beds. Clean the air purifiers. Vacuum the furniture. Wash the rugs. Without reminders, life gets busy. Having everything scheduled means I don't have to remember it all. My phone remembers for me. A Beautiful Home and Seven Pets Can Coexist People often think having multiple pets means giving up on having a beautiful home. I disagree. My goal has never been perfection. My goal is to walk into my house, take a deep breath, and feel peace. There will always be pet hair. Someone will always decide the clean blanket belongs to them five minutes after it comes out of the dryer. A muddy paw print will eventually appear after a rainy day. That's life with pets. But with a few good routines, products that genuinely help, and a realistic mindset, I've learned that I can have both—a home full of animals I adore and a home that feels clean, fresh, and welcoming. After all, my pets don't just live in my house. They're the reason it feels like home. ❤️ Before You Go... If you enjoyed spending a few minutes with me today, I'd love to stay in touch. • Can I tell you something I realized about myself?

For years, I spent more time explaining my life than actually enjoying it. Nobody was asking me to defend my choices. I had already decided they were judging me. If someone complimented my car, I'd explain why I bought it. If someone found out I had seven pets, I'd explain why my house didn't smell like a kennel. If someone admired my home, I'd explain where I saved money so they didn't think I spent too much. Looking back, almost all of those conversations happened inside my own head. The Porsche Story I used to love fast cars. I still do. My dad was a gearhead, so maybe I come by it honestly. I love the sound of an engine, the smell of rubber, and the sleek lines of a beautiful car. But if someone complimented my car, I’d immediately start explaining: "Oh, it’s used." "I got a really good deal." "It’s not as expensive as people think." It was almost as if I needed permission to enjoy something that made me happy. Why? I realized I was trying to protect myself from judgment before it even arrived. I was preemptively defending my choices because I thought others would see me as frivolous or irresponsible. The truth was, I was the one who felt unsure about enjoying something purely for myself. Looking back, I wasn't really explaining the nice car I had..... I was apologizing for liking it. Somewhere along the way, I convinced myself that enjoying something beautiful required a disclaimer. Why? I honestly don't know. Maybe I was afraid people would think I was irresponsible. Maybe I was worried they'd assume I spent money recklessly. Or maybe I simply hadn't learned yet that I didn't need permission to enjoy something that made me smile. The Pets My home filled with pets, a place of comfort and joy If you've been around Michelle's Room for more than five minutes, you already know my house isn't exactly quiet. Three pugs. Four cats. Seven furry roommates with very strong opinions. For years, whenever someone found out how many pets I had, I'd go straight into defense mode. I’d find myself saying: "My house is actually really clean." "I vacuum all the time." "You'd never know I have this many animals." But one day I caught myself and thought... Why am I explaining this? The truth is, I wasn't embarrassed that I had seven pets. I was embarrassed by what I thought other people might assume about me because I had seven pets. That's a huge difference. These days, I don't design my home to hide the fact that I have animals. I design it for them. My washable rugs weren't an accident. Neither were my robot vacuums. Or my air purifiers. Or my furniture choices. My home finally reflects the life I'm actually living instead of the life I thought I was supposed to have. And honestly? It's never felt more like home. The Real Issue Wasn't Other People So, here’s the thing that finally clicked for me. I realized that most people weren’t judging me nearly as much as I thought they were. It turns out, I was the one doing all the heavy lifting in that department. I was giving complete strangers opinions they had never actually expressed. I was out here living my life trying to answer questions that nobody had even asked. My Home Changed Too The biggest change wasn't just in me. It happened in my home, too. For years, I wanted people to walk into my house and forget I had pets. I wanted everything to look perfect, and if someone found out I had three pugs and four cats, I'd immediately start explaining how often I vacuumed or how clean my house was. Now? I do the exact opposite. I don't design my home to hide my pets anymore—I design it for them. That's why you'll find washable rugs instead of rugs I'm afraid to walk on. You'll find robot vacuums quietly doing their thing every day. Air purifiers running in the background. Furniture and fabrics that fit the life I'm actually living instead of the life I thought other people expected me to have. The funny thing is, once I stopped trying to hide the things I loved, my home actually became more beautiful. Not because it became perfect. Because it became honest. It reflects the people—and pets—I love most. It's comfortable, welcoming, and designed for real life. When someone walks through my front door now, I don't hope they overlook the fact that I have seven pets. I hope they notice that my home feels warm, peaceful, and lived in. Because that's exactly what I was trying to create all along. What Michelle's Room Really Means When I first started Michelle's Room, I honestly thought I was creating a space to share products I loved. A place where I could post great deals, beauty finds, home décor, pet products, and maybe help someone save a little money along the way. Turns out... I'm building something much bigger. Yes, you'll find affiliate links here. You'll discover products I genuinely love, home projects, beauty favorites, travel ideas, and probably more pictures of my three pugs and four cats than any normal person should have. But that's not really what Michelle's Room is about. It's about building a life that feels like you. For me, that means mixing bargain finds with things I choose to splurge on. It means buying washable rugs because I have pets instead of pretending they don't exist. It means learning to fix things around my house instead of automatically paying someone else. It means taking myself on adventures, trying new things, and proving to myself that it's never too late to learn something new. Most of all, it means giving myself permission to stop apologizing for the life I've chosen. I don't want this website to make you feel like you need to buy more stuff. I want it to make you feel like you can build a life you genuinely love—whatever that looks like for you. Maybe that's a home full of rescue animals. Maybe it's finally learning how to paint a room, fix a leaky faucet, or grow a garden. Maybe it's treating yourself to something you've wanted for years without feeling guilty about it. Maybe it's simply realizing you don't have to explain your choices to anyone else. If something I share helps make your life a little easier, saves you some money, gives you the confidence to tackle a project on your own, or inspires you to stop waiting for permission to live the life you want, then Michelle's Room has done exactly what I hoped it would. So welcome. Come in, get comfortable, and stay awhile. I'm really glad you're here. ❤️ Before You Go... If you enjoyed spending a few minutes with me today, I'd love to stay in touch.
